Hiroshima-Coventry Sculpture

This piece of sculpture by Josepfina De Vasconcelles is a token of reconciliation between the peoples of Hiroshima, Japan and Coventry, England - two cities devastated in the second world war.

"War is the work of man.
War is the destruction of human life.
War is death.
To remember the past is to commit oneself to the future.
To remember Hiroshima is to abhor nuclear war.
To remember Hiroshima is to commit oneself to peace."

"The very word Hiroshima became the ultimate symbol of the horrors of modern warfare." (London) Times when reviewing John Hersey's account of the bombing.

The bomb exploded over Hiroshima 6 August 1945 - 60 years ago.

(This shot was taken in Hiroshima, in the museum dedicated to the story of the atomic bombing.)
