Pappa Peacenik and his Canadian Peacenik sidekick.

FROM ALIX, PEACE SCOOTER: I attended my first non-violent direct action demonstration in D.C., September 26, 2006 with Izzy, Erik and 11 other Omega Peaceniks. Before that event, I had only gone to anti-war demonstrations, which despite the good intent, just felt angry. It made me question, "What is the point of gathering in large groups of outraged people, when the core values of non violent compassion aren't present?" Mother Teresa always said, "You won't find me at an antiwar rally, but throw a Pro-Peace rally and I'm there."

From the Lily of Us:
We will not be disagreeing with Mother Teresa, or with Alix...tho the I of We does believe strongly in Shouting for Peace...and getting angry, getting truly outraged, as well.

The I of We thinks that we NEED outrage...we MUST be willing not just to ASK for Peace, but to DEMAND it.

Anti-war IS pro-peace...so while the I of We would love to be a Pro Peace Rally groupie, this isn't a perfect world, far from it, so the I of We has a number of angry anti-war shouting matches she'd like to attend in 2008 :)

The I of We is being nudged by another I of We, who is pointing to the "Gotta Have" whiteboard list of pages for the site...she is frantically writing "Peace Hap-----p-----ens" . "Peace Happens: Anti-War and Pro Peace Rallies in your Neighborhood"....okay....see...this is what happens when we let Zoey step away from the keyboard for even a few minutes...she gets another Gotta Have Idea.

Somebody else go tell Clark...I'm not gonna.

Peace...
Lily

  1. I just like saying what you want, what you're for-not what you don't want, what you are against. I want peace. One can be adamant without being angry. Personally, anger seems to breed reactivity. What is that quote? oh. "You can't dismantle the master's house using the master's tools."
Werd! Nice job on the peace listings.

  2. We're just tryin' to be one o' them "unifiers" heh-heh-heh :) We'll take anti-war Peace or pro-peace Peace...Even Lily-the-Often- Angry is a Peacenik at heart! We're all part of this Peace Tapestry and it's cool that we all add our own threads to it...probably inevitable that sometimes the colors clash...or, let's say "complement" instead of blend. We need to bring someone on board to coordinate the Peace Listings..seriously...it's SO COOL that there's so much!
Alix, do you have a schedule, even a rough one of your upcoming travel? We'll add it up there with a link to your site for more details...

  3. The synchronicity is really sumptin.
Seriously, after Pete sent me those two events in WI, I decided I wanted to host events. Of course-you get website programming much more than I do. Kudos to makin it happen on the spot.

Last year, when I was pretty riled up about a coupla things, someone said "Wow,I thought you were a peace activist." And so I understand that demanding accountability is often confused with anger. And then I also become wary of big anti-war protests. Showing up and marching isn't enough. Peace has to happen with vigilance in everyday living. Who do your dollars support, how do you treat your lover and the earth-everyday actions. Those protests are beautiful bc maybe for the first time, someone doesn't feel alone. They recognize others want change also. Of course, I'll keep going. WE need to be counted. 1,2, 3, 4- I don't want this WAR. And such. Ok. Bye.
